đŻ Donât make your ads so serious...
...and make your audience laugh for a change
This Reddit ad for Upwork uses the popular Doge meme to highlight how easy it is to hire using their platform:
Why it works:
Hiring can be a stressful process, but this ad lightens up the mood with a popular meme.
You donât even need to be familiar with this meme format for it to be effective â everyone will understand that you want to be the doggo on the right!
How to apply this concept:
Memes are quick and easy to make, and rarely require adding any of your own assets (if for some reason you donât have any great visuals). There are endless meme formats you can scroll through to find inspiration â just make sure to check if the one you want to use is copyrighted or in the public domain. The original Doge image is copyrighted, but the above illustration that Upwork uses is freely available, even for commercial uses.
Note that Upwork is able to effectively use this Doge meme even though theyâre a hiring platform â they donât need to be a ârelevantâ business like a dog grooming salon or pet treats business in order to make it work. Just try to aim for something where the format is clear, not something that requires people to have watched a certain show or movie to get the context.
